Monday's Lesson Plan
Japan is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire. The Ring of Fire is contains most of the world's volcanoes. This makes for frequent earthquakes, tsunamis (tidal waves), and volcano flows. The biggest mountain in Japan is Mount Fuji. This week we make our own volcanoes, paint mountains, and play Japanese games.
Tuesday's Lesson Plan
Japan is unique in that it does not recognize an official language, but about 99% of the population speaks Japanese as their first language. Today we learn about Japanese music, we make paper, and learn about sumo wresting.
Wednesday's Lesson Plan
Today we learn about myths and stories in Japan. We make our own tumbling rice balls, a learn of the Tale of Genji, the first novel in the world! We make our own scrolls and learn about the Kabuki theater.
Thursday's Lesson Plan
Japan's animals are unique to the world, and have developed in interesting ways to cope with the challenging terrain they inhabit. We make our own Koi pond and taste sushi. But the highlight of the day is a demonstration in the art of Karate.
Friday's Lesson Plan
Japan is an island country with little flat land and a lot of people, most who live in small, inner-city apartments. We learn what a Japanese homes are like, we blow up our volcano, and we make Japanese kites.
