The Little City Kids Perspective is a teaching approach that encourages children to discover the world and its innumerable gifts. The Perspective is designed to fill the classroom with a full year of joyous learning. The year's lessons are based on a timeline of world history incorporating the traditional subjects of math, science, and literacy into an innovative study of world cultures emphasizing the arts.

Children learn necessary "kindergarten readiness" skills, but not just by writing on paper. Instead, they are exposed to literature in tactile, artistic and creative ways that provide a world context for meaning. Our children don't just learn their numbers; they learn the fundamental principles of mathematics. They don't just learn their colors and shapes, they learn about world class art and artists through tactile experiences. All of this knowledge is shared through play. Our fantasy classroom and Imagination Stations address the needs and senses of the whole child, giving each the opportunity to immerse them in an imaginary environment that cultivates problem-solving skills and creative thinking.

The Perspective begins with the origins of man, earth, and art. Children become acquainted with the Ice and Stone Ages, discover land bridges, and create cave paintings. They begin to see the similarities in the human experience past and present. As the year continues, children travel farther along the timeline imagining life in other times and cultures. Each corresponding lesson and play activity is designed to engage the senses, providing each child a broad understanding of many different concepts both abstract and concrete. The goal of this approach, the Little City Kids perspective, is to encourage children to freely sense and react to the natural and man-made world in which we live while embracing our world's cultural heritage.

Traditional lessons are combined with sensory or artistic activities, increasing a child's level of enjoyment and learning. Many math, reading, and science lessons are presented using Montessori toys. These toys give concrete form to the abstract concepts children often find challenging upon introduction. The concrete and tactile form enables the child to more quickly and thoroughly understand traditionally challenging lessons.

Daily yoga activities provide another form of tactile stimulation. Yoga engages the whole body in an attempt to perfect self-control. Yoga poses encourage slow precise movements and deeper concentration. All of these skills will benefit a child as he continues in his pursuit of knowledge.

Music is used for auditory stimulation in the classroom throughout the year. Each portion of the timeline includes a sampling of music that represents that period of history. Children are exposed to music in its many forms from classical and jazz to drumming. Children then have the opportunity to recreate the sounds and rhythms they hear with various classroom instruments.

The Little City Kids Perspective also incorporates Spanish and sign language into daily lessons. Children become familiar with the names of common objects in three languages. This exposure to a second or third language at an early age proves more successful than introduction later in life. Children at this age are said to have an absorbent mind capable of learning more rapidly. The Perspective provides these absorbent minds with the vocabulary building blocks for three different languages.

At a time when the young mind is most capable, the Little City Kids Perspective provides an environment designed to foster creative thinking, problem-solving, tolerance and awareness. In this environment, children are free to embrace the fundamentals of knowledge while exploring the world and its offerings.

Welcome to the Little City Kids Perspective, a very special way for your child to investigate his world.
